Drawn as the animal actually is, with the muscles of the shoulder and haunch marked, proper hocks and hooves, standing square in a field under a bank of cloud. The long one: an eight year old who likes to take their time, or an adult on a quiet evening. The coat is where the work is, and the trick is that a horse is never one colour, so shade the belly and the inside of the legs lighter than the back and the flat shape turns solid.
